BBC Music Magazine review of the Brahms CD
Piano Trios, Vol.1: No.2 in C; String Sextet No.2 in G (arr. Kirchner)
by Jan Smaczny
Greenwich Trio do a splendid job especially in the first movement's heroic development and the delicate first section of the Scherzo..Yoko Misumi's piano playing is superb and both string players provide sweetly focused tone... balancing the heroic assertiveness of the opening Allegro with passion and intensity of the variation slow movement. Their performance of the Scherzo manages to be both detailed and captivatingly virtuosic, and the Finale has an intoxicating, celebratory quality.. these fine performances deserve repeated listening.

NEW ALBUM RELEASE
BRAHMS Piano Trios Vol. 1,Op. 36 & 87
GREENWICH TRIO and LINN launch a new collaboration with the first volume in a forthcoming series of the complete Brahms piano trios

Greenwich Trio makes its debut on Linn with a recording of Brahms Piano Trios. Pairing Op. 36 with Op. 87,this is the first instalment in a complete trios cycle. Although a string sextet in its original Brahmsian guise, Op. 36 was brilliantly arranged for piano trio by Theodor Kirchner, a contemporary and friend of Johannes. The second of Brahms’s three trios, Op. 87 is a mature work which sees the composer at the height of his compositional writing. Its highly Romantic leaning combined with its Classical structure calls for the sort of sharp skills the Greenwich Trio has in abundance
